The Synod Judicial Commission

The Synod Judicial Commission was appointed by the Moderator of Synod in July 2022 as a result of Synod’s deliberation on the report of the Synod Judicial Committee, ““that Synod assume original jurisdiction in the matter of GLG and Immanuel, and the moderator appoint a seven-man judicial commission to address this matter.”

The appointed commission members were Bruce Backensto, John Bower, Brian Coombs, Tom Fisher, Kelly Moore, Tom Pinson, and Keith Wing, with alternatives Micah Ramsey and Andrew Silva also being appointed. The commission was also helped by appointed consultant C. Robert Keenan who served as the SJC’s legal advisor. The SJC appointed pastors Kyle Borg, Stan Copeland, Joseph Friedly, and Pete Smith to serve as investigators on behalf of the commission to investigate the response or the leadership of IRPC to the sexual abuse.

The SJC was dismissed in June 2022 at that meeting of Synod. Their report can be read here, and their minutes can be read here.
